From June 21, 1963, until August 5, 2022, Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann, better known on stage as Cherie Gil (Tagalog: [hil anmn]), was a Filipino actress. She had a nearly 50-year career and was known as “La Primera Contravida” (The Prime Villain) for her ability to portray villains in a variety of films, television programs, and even plays.
Gil earned the FAMAS Honor for Best Supporting Actress, was admitted into the Metro Manila Film Festival Hall of Fame, and was given the Ani ng Dangal award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. In 2015, she won the Best Actress prize at the ASEAN International Film Awards.
The other honour she received was for Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Madrid International Film Festival.
She was recognized for her portrayal of Patricia Medina in the film Citizen Jake when she took home the Best Supporting Actress award at the 42nd Gawad Urian Awards in 2019.
Ms. Cherie began her career as a child actress at the age of nine.. She gained fame for her role as Lavinia Arguelles in the 1985 film Bituing Walang Ningning, in which she famously told Sharon Cuneta’s character Dorina Pineda, “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”
At the age of 59, Cherie Gil passed away from brain cancer. She had battled brain cancer for many years before her death. She lost her hair. Her passing was announced on August 5, 2022.

The children of the iconic actress and her ex-husband Roni Rogoff are Bianca and Raphael Rogoff, while Cherie’s child with the actor Leo Martinez is Jay Eigenmann. Roni is a well-known violinist who was born in Israel.
