On November 15, 1915, Stirling was born at Keir House, the ancestral seat of his family in the Perthshire parish of Lecropt. He was well-known throughout the world as the son of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, and Margaret Stirling, daughter of Brigadier-General Archibald Stirling of Keir. Besides the home training which is morally given to him and he exhibits that always, also, Stirling received his schooling at the catholic boarding school Ampleforth College, although he barely spent a year there before moving to Paris to pursue his artistic career.
