George Matthew Karlaftis (born April 3, 2001) is a Purdue Boilermaker defensive end. He was born in Greece and came to America when he was 13 years old. Karlaftis was a multi-sport athlete as a kid, representing Greece in football, track and field, basketball, and water polo.
Matthew, who grew up in Greece as an all-around athlete, earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Miami before going on to Purdue University to get his doctorate.

As a true freshman at Purdue in 2019, Karlaftis started all 12 games and had 54 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He only played in three games as a sophomore in 2020 because to a positive COVID-19 result, concluding the year with four tackles and two sacks.
