Before starting her campaign for a student walkout, Greta Thunberg battled depression for almost four years. Her parents were against her activism when she first began to demonstrate. And her father expressed his dislike for her skipping school but added: “We respect her desire to take a position. She has two options: protest and be happy, or stay at home and be extremely sad.”
In order to assist other families going through a similar scenario, her mother made her Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis public in Sweden in May 2015. Thunberg has referred to her Asperger’s as her “superpower” and acknowledged that her condition “has hindered [her] before,” but she does not see it as a disease.
Greta Thunberg was thereafter referred to as the most well-known advocate for both autism and climate change. In 2021, Thunberg observed that the Fridays for Future movement included and welcomed many individuals with autism.
