Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi, British India, to an Urdu-speaking family, the son of Syed Musharrafuddin. And Begum Zarin Musharraf (circa 1920–2021).
His family was Muslim Sayyids who claimed descent from Prophet Muhammad.
Syed Musharraf graduated from Aligarh Muslim University and entered the civil service, which was a highly regarded profession during British rule.
