Rodney George Laver is a retired tennis player from Australia who played the left-handed (one-handed backhand) position.

He was rated professional World No.1 in some sources in 1964. Laver was born on August 9, 1938, in Rockhampton, Australia.

His 198 singles titles are vastly in the history of tennis. This comprised his all-time men’s list of 10 or more titles each year for seven straight years (1965-1970).

Laver topped on all court surfaces during his era: grass, carpet, wood, hard, and clay. He was prohibited from playing in that tournament although he gained 11 Grand Slam titles. Laver was prohibited for the five years before the Open Era.

He is solely the player, male or female to obtain the Grand Slam(gaining all four main titles twice the same year) and in 1962 and 1969 twice in singles. Later at the age of 27 wedded Mary Benson in San Rafael, California. The pair was blessed with a son. Mary passed in November 2012 at the age of 84 in Carlsbad.
